MechRunner, an endless runner/action game featuring mechs and a wonderfully suitable name, is coming to the PS4, Vita, PC and Mac in July, developer Spark Plug Games has announced. To help add additional polish to the game, Spark Plug is turning to Kickstarter with a campaign targeting $25,000. A $10 pledge will net Kickstarter users a copy of the game for either PC/Mac via Steam or a cross-play version for the PS4 and Vita. "The game is feature complete, fully playable, and in its final stages before we launch in July 2014," the Kickstarter campaign page says ...

Respawn plans to improve its "update tempo" for future improvements to Titanfall, upping the frequency of announcements related to updates as well as the patches themselves. Game Director Steve Fukuda broke down the developer's update plans in a recent blog, noting that one part of the game's updates will "tend the garden and keep the weeds out," such as last week's changes to the game's Gooser Challenge. Fukuda also discussed both convenience and infrastructural features, the former making "life more pleasant" for players in the game. Future convenience feature ...

Today, developer Guerrilla Cambridge will unleash a new DLC pack for Killzone Mercenary, which adds offline multiplayer to the Vita shooter. "With the purchase of the Botzone Soldier Training Pack, all of our multiplayer maps can be played offline in Mercenary or Guerrilla Warfare modes," a post on the PlayStation Blog from Guerrilla Cambridge' Tech Director, Matt Porter, revealed. With the new content, players can face off against up to seven AI soldiers. Porter notes that, with the offline mode, players will have a chance to collect some of the portable game's "harder-to-obtain" ...

The term "simulation" is appropriate for MLB 14: The Show, but not just because of its beautiful presentation, a defining trait of the series that's become a benchmark for other sports video games. Rather, MLB 14: The Show earns its simulation stripes by continuing the series' tradition of challenging players with mechanics and statistics that mirror the real sport. While MLB's gameplay has changed little this year, no matter what option players select for pitching, fielding and hitting (we'll get to that later), they will fail or succeed as regularly as athletes do in the big leagues ...

This week's deals don't begin and end with Batman's unfortunate tumble down the pricing ladder - no sir. Microsoft has just announced a special spring sale, with a bunch of Games on Demand and DLC packs on offer. In particular, I'd direct your attention to Borderlands 2, which is now roundabouts a fiver in made-up British money, and Saints Row 4, which is roundabouts a tenner. The former is more abundant in co-op and randomly generated guns, while the latter allows you to shoulder-barge through traffic like a Labrador jumping into a box of packing foam. Witness ...

Titanfall isn't just the name of Respawn's popular online shooter, it's also one of the most satisfying attacks in said game. Drop a titan on a pilot and the pilot becomes bloody goo. Drop one on another titan, and that titan becomes burning scrap. But what if you were to drop a titan on an enemy evac ship? That idea is put to the test at the 1:52 mark of the above clip. While you can destroy an evac ship with a falling titan, it's not as simple as it sounds. They key problem is that a titan will fall right through an evac ship as if it weren't there. However, on certain maps, when ...

Following a 2010 PlayStation 3 debut and a recent PlayStation 4 release, Dead Nation will complete the Sony trifecta by reaching the Vita handheld on April 15. Originally developed by Housemarque (the studio responsible for favorite shooter Resogun), Dead Nation drops players into an ongoing zombie apocalypse. From a top-down perspective, would-be survivors navigate a decrepit city, blasting hordes of ambulatory corpses while collecting health packs, explosives and cash useful for upgrading both guns and a player's armor. Despite the zombies, Dead Nation ...

The Watch Dogs delay was an enormous setback for Ubisoft, but according to Tom Clancy's The Division developer David Polfeldt, it's also cold, hard proof that the publisher is prepared to "take a hit" if the result is a better game. This makes interesting reading, given persistent rumours that The Division will not, in fact, release this year. Ubisoft has insisted that the game is "on track" but declined to comment further. The new game is an immensely ambitious project - an MMO that handles like Ghost Recon, which takes place in a ruined New York. The workloads ...

Here's a quick aside from Ubisoft Toronto head Jade Raymond - co-creator of the Assassin's Creed franchise, boss of all things Splinter Cell and a woman with serious ambitions for the artform at large. Including those aspects of the artform that are unrealistically pendulous and/or covered in blood. Speaking to the Grid, Raymond expressed frustration at "all the videogames that treat gamers like idiots" as regards choice of characters or tone. "I don't like the assumption that all people who play games want big chainsaws and women in bikinis," she said. "It's like, really? ...

Roll7 says the plan is to kickflip OlliOlli onto PS3, PS4, and Steam in mid-July, bringing the Vita 2D skateboarder to other platforms for the first time. Speaking to Den of Geek, Roll7 Director Simon Bennett said "We are looking at July 22nd, [which is] my birthday!" The ports aren't in development at Roll7, with Spelunky Vita porter BlitWorks grinding out the PS4 and PS3 versions, and Devolver Digital on board for the Steam transitions to PC, Mac and Linux. As for Roll7 it's busy with 2D (or 2-and-a-quarter D...) pixelated cover-based shooter Not a Hero. Expected in late ...

I have to say, I was wrong about Terraria. When I first picked it up, I was convinced it was just a 2D Minecraft-lite, a tiresome slog with very little originality of its own. But after a few hours exploring its deceptively huge world, I discovered it was much more than that. And now, with its huge 1.2 update, it's much, much more than that. And it had shark guns before, for crying out loud. The update changelog, which was posted over on the Terraria forums, can be seen in full below. The differences between console and PC versions are listed at the bottom ...

The 'Continue?' schtick harks back to Soap's fate back in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Soap wouldn't be the first classic COD character to make a return in Ghosts. Captain price and Vladimir Makarov have both featured as ...

This spring's FIFA World Cup tie-in for Xbox 360 isn't just a quick cash-in, producer Matthew Prior has assured. The inevitable FIFA 15 will build on its revisions and experiments, presumably including the 'Story of Finals' challenge system, which offers objectives based on the progress of the tournament in real life. This isn't the first time FIFA has offered such a feature, but the developer wants to deliver challenges at a much faster rate this time round. "We'll have a producer monitoring the games, setting ...

The top-down physics-based roguelike gameplay is highlighted by action reminiscent of Asteroids. "It's not about waves of enemies," said Kazdal. "It's about leading shots, the AI becomes apparent as you play. We put a lot of work into the AI dodging ...
