Nintendo is slashing the DSi to $149.99 and the DSi XL to $169.99 (that's down $20 apiece) on September 12 in North America, after dropping prices in the UK and Japan in June. We still don't know what the 3DS will be going for or when it will land, that announcement is still slated for the end of this month, but we're sure at this price (or any) Nintendo will manage to sell a good many million of the current crop between now and then. PR is after the break. ...

Marvell's been teasing potent little processors for over a year now, but we've yet to see the firm's Armada appear in anything we'd actually want... but co-founder Sehat Sutardja just let slip that Marvell silicon will power a genuine game console of some sort. "Approximately 15% of the sequential increase [in quarterly sales] was due to the initial production revenue from our ARMADA application processors, primarily as a result of a major customer preparing to launch a new gaming platform," he told investors in a conference call last week ...

That’s the current hype surrounding the (not very new) medium, and it seems the developer of Kid Icarus Uprising is buying into it. He went on to add: “The Nintendo DSi XL, with the larger screens, is around £159.99. In an interview from this year's E3 that's only just been published, Nintendo 3DS platform producer Hideo Konno says that the upcoming handheld is in its "final shape." Reggie Fils-Aime, the company's leading North American voice, has more recently told us that, au contraire, the E3 consoles are not the final design, though parsing the two into one coherent message would suggest that Nintendo's just leaving itself room to make small changes if the need arises. Konno's chat with Wired also touches on the 3DS' screen size ...

Nintendo believes that all-new anti-piracy tech in 3DS will be foolproof to cracks from illegal downloaders. That's according to THQ's executive VP of global publishing Ian Curran, who told CVG that that piracy had scuppered his firm's ability to produce more games for DS Lite in the past. "What excites me even more [than 3DS games] is that there's technology built in that device to really combat piracy," said Curran. ...

Speaking with IGN this week, he says that it is "something that we're definitely giving consideration to," and that Nintendo wants to "continue to try to allow people to use their Miis on different Nintendo systems going forward. ...

From all the glowing praise the Nintendo 3DS has received during and post-E3 2010, you'd be forgiven for thinking this device somehow turns lead to gold, cures cancer, solved the conflict in Iraq and bridged the divide between Xbox 360 and PS3 fans. Alas, people haven't taken the time to really stop and ponder the possible threats to the 3DS' success a success that's far from assured, if a few key questions aren't answered to the satisfaction of a demanding marketplace. ...
