According to Apple's UK website, iOS 4.1 will hit on Wednesday, September 8th. The US website still displays the non-commital "Coming Soon" message, so we'll have to keep our eyes peeled. Steve Jobs just pulled out the world famous "one more thing" for nothing other than... a new Apple TV. It's now a streaming-focused device with an in a small matte black enclosure we're calling "the hockey puck." It has HDMI, Ethernet, optical audio, and USB plugs around back, and of course 802.11n for the cable-averse. Inside there ain't much -- there's no local storage, which makes this thing an entirely different beast than old Apple TVs. Apple is also talking up iOS 4.2 today, which will be everything iOS 4.1 is bringing, plus some extra goodies, and will finally bring iOS 4 (hello multitasking!) to the iPad. The most exciting of the new features is AirPlay, which is Apple's redub for AirTunes, with the important addition of being able to stream music and video from your computer to your i-device over WiFi. Naturally, Apple has re-upped its "iPhone without the phone" to include the Retina Display from the iPhone 4, an Apple A4 core, 3-axis gyroscope, Game Center, and FaceTime support thanks to the addition of a front cam. Oh, and speaking of cams, it's also got a rear cam capable of HD video -- but you'll be paying a bit more than you will for that cute little nano: $229 for 8GB, $299 for 32GB, and $399 for 64GB ...

Good timing since, you know, it just went ahead and released a quintuplet of new gadgets. iPhone Dev Team, the creators of the first iPhone 4 jailbreak, has said it will not be supporting its jailbreak and has chosen to back out of the 'cat and mouse' game with Apple. The original hack was released mere weeks after the release of Apple's iPhone 4 and gained immense popularity for being an alarmingly simple process. We had a feeling that Microsoft recognized the potential in phone-to-console gaming, but during our recent hands-on time with Windows Phone 7, reps kept mum on the subject. iTunes accounts linked to PayPal have been hacked with a number of users complaining that they have been cleaned out. Apple and PayPal refused to discuss the details of the incident. Experts have told the BBC there is no security hole in iTunes or Apple servers and that it is most likely users have fallen for an online scam. Remember MSI's Windows 7 WindPad that we went hands-on with back in June at Computex? Of course you do. Well even though it's been given a bit of Photoshop polish lately, MSI isn't planning on launching it until Intel releases its Oak Trail Atom platform for tablets and netbooks at CES 2011. MSI's Andy Tung told us that the current Atom platform just doesn't provide adequate battery life and power for the form factor, and that it's finding the Oak Trail platform to be much better in all areas with the Windows 7 OS. ...
