PopCap's puzzle tour-de-force Plants vs. Zombies will be released tomorrow on Xbox Live Arcade. There's no mention of a price just yet, but we do know the Xbox 360 version of the game gains multiplayer. Either you and a friend can fight off zombies co-operatively, or one of you can play as the fauna and one as the undead. Plants vs. Zombies is PopCap's best game to date. And considering the rest of the portfolio, which includes Peggle and Bejeweled, that comment can't be understated. ...

Microsoft put out montage trailers of both Joyride and Kinect Sports this morning, showing one woman soundly beating both a small boy and young girl. She really takes them to school. The Kinect Sports video sees a family competing in a variety of events before taking on another family online in a soccer game. Mom wins the day with a childhood-crushing penalty a certain young man will most likely carry to his deathbed. It’s rousing stuff. The Joy Ride trailer consists of a bunch of gameplay modes, including stunts, split-screen, racing and more ...

GTPlanet’s posted up ten new off-screen videos of Gran Turismo 5, all taken from the recent Best Buy conference in the US. The top one shows the game’s damage modelling system in action. There’s a beaten-up Ferrari there, spinning round in circles. Amazing. The rest show cars driving round tracks, down roads and over hills. We saw this at gamescom. It’s exhaustive and very anal. You can stick that on the box. GT5 ships on November 2 in the US and November 3 in Europe. ...

Should there be an international award for Cheekiest Man of the Year, it'd have to go to Meizu's shameless Jack Wong. Shortly after Apple's keynote last week, the CEO of KIRFdom seized the opportunity to cry foul on the new iPod touch, claiming it "looks a bit like" his forthcoming M9II Android phone, as pictured above. Wait, M9II? Turns out even though the M9 has yet to materialize in early October, Mr. Wong already has an enhanced model to be brought forth by his faithful unicorns. ...

Forget cockroaches! If it does turn out that World War 3 ends in nuclear holocaust, it’ll be these unstoppable critters that will be left to inhabit the Earth, and they will still be up to their old tricks: battling valiantly and tirelessly for newly resurfaced world domination. The folks over at Team 17 have confirmed via their Facebook page that Worms 2 Armageddon, based on the jarring expectations of events to come, will be hitting the PlayStation Network this week in Europe. They didn’t have any comment to make about pricing ...

Another month, yet another PS3 firmware update. Little over one month since 3.41 (and two months since 3.40) comes yet another mandatory update for your PS3. Firmware 3.42 seemingly doesn't add any functionality to your system beyond the usual "system software stability," but it is required if you want to continue accessing the PlayStation Network or the PlayStation Store. While unverified, this update may be a response to a recently-released jailbreak tool, which supposedly enables piracy on Sony's once-bulletproof system ...

To be as forthright as possible, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West was not on my radar when it was announced last year. Apart from a handful of pretty screens, it subsequently managed to slip by me in the madness of the 2010 summer trade show season. Having now spent several hours with the first half of the game, it's impossible to think I could have missed it. Based on what I've played so far, Enslaved deserves a spot on everyone's radar, offering polished gameplay, interesting characters and a gorgeous world to explore. ...

Dont worry. Duke hasn’t nuked Aliens: Colonial Marines or Borderlands out of orbit. Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford’s told us so at the weekend. The head of the Texas developer told VG247 it remains “fully committed” to the title, despite the studio’s revival of Duke Nukem Forever over the weekend. “Colonial Marines has always been very important to us, and we are fully committed to that project,” he said. “And because Gearbox is a multi-team studio and we have multi-team projects, when one game gets its day in the sun I know people tend to worry about the other games ...

A new, bug-free version of Crackdown 2's "Toy Box" DLC pack was released yesterday morning on Xbox Live Marketplace, according to Ruffian Games. Unfortunately, rather than a patch, the DLC has been re-issued, meaning that folks who downloaded the content will need to delete it and redownload. The new version fixes issues ranging from "crash on loading" to issues with the narrator's voice and Achievement problems, which we reported on earlier this week. Ruffian says that the glitches were "caused by problems mastering the DLC package," thus the reissue ...

We've got bad news and good news. First, the bad news: The new Borderlands DLC pack – that's Claptrap's New Robot Revolution – won't include the two most requested features. Those would be a new level cap and a rebalancing of the main game to accomodate the new level cap. And neither of those will be included with the latest DLC. Now the good news: They are being included in a free update for the game across all three platforms, Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford told a live PAX audience that his studio resisted making it a part of a DLC ...

Ubisoft’s released a new trailer for its Kinect launch title, Motion Sports, showing some gameplay from the six event types included on the disc. The video, which you can see below, shows American football, horse riding, boxing, hang gliding, skiing and soccer. As you would expect, the game is completely controller-free, so you’ll play through each of the game types and the included 40 challenges by jumping, waving and rolling. Or whatever. Motion Sports is set to launch alongside Kinect this November. ...

When Sony introduced the original Dualshock analog controller back in 1998, a various amount of titles supported Sony’s newest controller. It wasn’t until Sony’s 1999 smash hit, Ape Escape, that is was required that you used both analog sticks, one for controlling the main character and the other served as your net, baton, etc. It gave gamers complete control of Spike and the series has earned quite the rabid fanbase. So, when Sony Japan announced that the Ape Escape would be receiving a motion controlled installment, fans rejoiced ...

We can all agree that Sonic Unleashed had some pretty deep lows -- specifically, the Werehog. But the daytime segments in the game showed promise; almost a return to form. These areas of the game, for the unaware, combined Sonic Adventure-like 3D free-running elements alongside more classical, 2D elements from the series' past. It was easily the highlight of that game. And Sega knows it, which explains why Sonic Colors is pretty much nothing but those portions of gameplay. That alone would make for a pretty serviceable Sonic game ...

Some new gameplay footage for Duke Nukem forever has hit YouTube, showing both a boss battle and some enemies being gunned down with a large weapon. It’s not the greatest footage in the world, but it does give you an idea of how the game is shaping up and just how frantic it’s going to be. Duke Nukem Forever was announced at the weekend and Steph was there to see the game, test it out and interview the developer. It’s scheduled for release next year on PC, PS3 and 360. ...

As beta testing programs go, Microsoft's Kinect venture has been kind of... leaky. No surprises, therefore, that we've now received our first in-the-plastic pictures of the motion-tracking camera peripheral, replete with a few select shots of its packaging. Redmond's promise that hardware was en route to testers was clearly not a hollow one, and we can now probably expect a bunch more unauthorized disclosures about the user experience with what should be final retail units. ...

The trailer gives us glimpse at our hero in lightcycle battles, moving about in free running style gameplay and participating in identity disk battles; all while trying to not get derezzed. No Daft Punk in this trailer — maybe next time. With a release date of December 7th, the game is still a few months off. If you just can’t wait to hop on that lightcycle, at least you have the flash game to tide you over ...

If you need proof that the upswing of independent game development is having an impact on more mainstream devs, look no further than Outland, the upcoming XBLA and PSN release just revealed by Ubisoft during PAX 2010. Just tell me this doesn't seem like one of those way-out-there ideas, the product of one-man coding in his spare time: It's a beautifully rendered animated platformer that draws aesthetic inspiration from classics like Out of this World ... oh, and it's sort of based on Ikaruga. ...
