Medal of Honor High Value Target (video)

Here at EA, we want to make sure our PlayStation 3 fans know that we’re listening. That’s why we we’ve created The MOH Experience, a series of uncut and unedited single-player and multiplayer videos put together to show our audience what they can expect when Medal of Honor launches on October 12th. In this third installment, titled “High Value Target,” we’re giving you a look at Medal of Honor’s multiplayer. The mode being played in the video is called Combat Mission. Coalition forces are tasked with clearing five consecutive objectives to win and the insurgents must stop them at any cost. As objectives are cleared, new areas of the map open up to reveal what the coalition must do next.
Apple's App Store Review Guidelines: 'we don't need any more fart apps'

Apple definitely surprised us this morning by relaxing its restrictions on third-party iOS development tools and publishing its app review guidelines, but that's nothing compared to the almost shockingly blunt tone of the guidelines themselves. We're still poring over them and we'll post highlights as we go, but grab the PDF for yourselves at the source link now and we'll do this thing together after the break. Okay, so while Apple's tone throughout the guidelines is extremely direct, the highlights definitely come from the introduction, where the company basically lays it down:
Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood beta kicks off on October 8

Ubisoft’s announced that the multiplayer beta of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood launches on October 8, while also confirming a delay for the PC version. Multiplayer beta gets stabby next month, Ubi said today that anyone who has pre-ordered the standard edition, as well as the Auditore or Codex editions of the game, will get access to the taster, which is exclusive to PlayStation 3. The beta will include nine different characters across two maps: Rome and Castel Gandolfo.

Eight players can simultaneously play two modes being included: Alliance, which sees players join up in teams of two to “fulfill contracts and confuse enemies in tandem”, and Wanted, the latter of which Steph played at PAX last weekend.
Apple backpedaling on some iOS development restrictions, will allow third party tools

Who saw this coming? Apple has changed its stance on third party developer tools for iOS apps, now allowing any and all comers (which would obviously include Adobe CS5), "as long as the resulting apps do not download any code." Apple's also publishing its App Store Review Guidelines at long last, which will give developers a better idea of how their apps are going to be scrutinized by Apple before they submit them. We're sure we'll be hearing plenty in the coming weeks as developers and arm chair analysts rifle through Apple's so-far-secretive guidelines, but mostly we're just excited to see what sort of innovation and development accessibility we've been missing out on with these third party tools off the market. Developing...
PS3 Firmware Update 3.42 Problems: Bricks, Crashes and Black Screens?

Following on from Sony’s hasty PS3 firmware update to 3.42 yesterday, we told you how there wasn’t any initial problems following the update – until now. We’ve received a barrage of messages from our readers stating that 3.42 is causing them problems. Just like v3.41, the new update doesn’t seem to be causing everyone problems, just a select few, which means that nothing is likely to be done about it, and Sony will refuse to acknowledge the problems unless it turns into a widespread issue. In extreme cases, we’ve heard reports that 3.42 is crashing consoles, while a few others have said that specific games are not loading, with Call of Duty 4 and Madden mentioned. Users are also complaining about sound issues, while more than one told us about their PS3 locking up while updating.<br

iOS 4.1 jailbreak on the way after bootrom exploit discovery

So let's see, how long has iOS 4.1 been out in the open for public consumption? We make it less than 24 hours, yet already some earnest jail busters have managed to liberate it from Apple's control freak clutches. It's still a fair distance away from an easily executable jailbreak, but it's looking like it'll work on iPhone 4, the latest-gen iPod touch, and the iPad, covering all the freshest bases of Apple hardware. Now it's just a matter of waiting it out.
Apple's Game Center Goes Live

Apple has launched multiplayer gaming service Game Centre as part of its 4.1 iOS update. The social gaming network offers features including achievements, leaderboards, online multiplayer and auto matchmaking. It doesn’t currently work with original iPhones and first generation iPod Touches, but supports all newer models. It's also expected to launch for iPad in November. "Game Centre is all about multiplayer games," Apple CEO Steve Jobs said last week. "It allows you to challenge your friends to games, and they can challenge you.
Nintendo Updates DSi, Wii Security

Nintendo has released new firmware updates for DSi and Wii that reportedly disable the use of a number of flash carts and software modifications. The company said that Nintendo DSi Menu Ver 1.4.1U “provides behind-the-scenes improvements to system performance”, but GBATemp.net forum posters claim that homebrew-enabling flash carts like Supercard DSTwo, Acekard 2i, M3i Zero and iPlayer no longer work post-update.
