Here at EA, we want to make sure our PlayStation 3 fans know that we’re listening. That’s why we we’ve created The MOH Experience, a series of uncut and unedited single-player and multiplayer videos put together to show our audience what they can expect when Medal of Honor launches on October 12th. In this third installment, titled “High Value Target,” we’re giving you a look at Medal of Honor’s multiplayer. The mode being played in the video is called Combat Mission. Coalition forces are tasked with clearing five consecutive objectives to win and the insurgents must stop them at any cost. As objectives are cleared, new areas of the map open up to reveal what the coalition must do next.

The team health meter represents coalition reinforcements. If it’s depleted before the current objective is cleared, the match ends and coalition forces are stopped.
You may have also noticed the Bradley Fighting Vehicles as well. It can seat both a driver and gunner. This particular map requires that coalition forces use them strategically to break through certain points of the map and eventually achieve victory.

Combat Mission is just one of the ways you’ll step up to Tier 1 when Medal of Honor launches on October 12th, 2010 for the PS3.

With a gold master OS, plenty of devices raring to show themselves, and a more or less obvious October launch window, it's clear that Windows Phone 7 is right around the corner. Pocket-lint is reporting today that its sources, "senior figures within the industry," are pegging October 11 as the special day, with a New York launch event to make it all official. The handsets will then be available later that month, according to one of those sources. It sounds like everybody is ready for Microsoft to start fighting back in the world of phones, the question is: are you?

In what can only be described as a triumph of understatement, PlayStation boss Kaz Hirai has admitted to MCV that the $250 pricing could "perhaps" be blamed for the PSP Go's unimpressive sales thus far. "I think we need to make sure we have as many titles available to download as possible, to make the experience as easy as possible. But also pricing is perhaps an issue. Because of the cost reductions we've been able to do over the years, the traditional PSP has benefited. But the PSP Go is a completely different design, so the cost trend is different." To put it another way, when Sony took out the part that makes it play all the PSP games you already own, it made it very expensive. Or to put it even simpler: They only hit you because they love you so much.

If Sony really wanted to capture the situation, it'd make an ad where Kevin Butler puts a PSP Go in a slingshot, fires it out a window at a passing explosion and says, "Win some, lose some, I guess." We understand why this level of corporate honesty is not an option, but can we at least get something better than "perhaps"? Like ... say ... a price cut?

Apple definitely surprised us this morning by relaxing its restrictions on third-party iOS development tools and publishing its app review guidelines, but that's nothing compared to the almost shockingly blunt tone of the guidelines themselves. We're still poring over them and we'll post highlights as we go, but grab the PDF for yourselves at the source link now and we'll do this thing together after the break. Okay, so while Apple's tone throughout the guidelines is extremely direct, the highlights definitely come from the introduction, where the company basically lays it down:

We have lots of kids downloading lots of apps, and parental controls don't work unless the parents set them up (many don't). So know that we're keeping an eye out for the kids."

"We have over 250,000 apps in the App Store. We don't need any more Fart apps."

"We have lots of serious developers who don't want their quality Apps to be surrounded by amateur hour."

"If your app is rejected, we have a Review Board that you can appeal to. If you run to the press and trash us, it never helps."

"This is a living document, and new apps presenting new questions may result in new rules at any time. Perhaps your app will trigger this."

"If it sounds like we're control freaks, well, maybe it's because we're so committed to our users and making sure they have a quality experience with our products."

Harsh, but it's nothing we didn't already sort of know. The real action comes in the actual rules, which are written in an equally direct way. A few jumped right out to us:

"Apps that include undocumented or hidden features inconsistent with the description of the app will be rejected." This hits all those apps with game emulators hidden as easter eggs. Oh well.

"Apps that duplicate apps already in the App Store may be rejected, particularly if there are many of them." This is an interesting one -- obviously it touches on the fart app dilemma Apple's already worried about, but what aabout the proliferation of Twitter clients? Photo apps? Drawing apps? We're curious to see how this one is interpreted -- that "may" gives Apple a lot of wiggle room.

"Apps that browse the web must use the iOS WebKit framework and WebKit Javascript." Looks like there's still no hope for third-party browsers!

"Apps with metadata that mentions the name of any other mobile platform will be rejected."

"Apps which appear confusingly similar to an existing Apple product or advertising theme will be rejected."

"Apps that misspell Apple product names in their app name (i.e., GPS for Iphone, iTunz) will be rejected."

Were you in the mood to virtually grapple with Jason "Mayhem" Miller, and disappointed that he wasn't in the UFC game? You're in luck -- EA Sports MMA will be available in limited demo form on September 28 for Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. The demo features Miller against fellow middleweight Jake Shields, along with current Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem against former WWE superstar Bobby Lashley, with both matches overseen by the great Big John McCarthy.

The demo will also have a quick tutorial and information on the game's other modes (including that EA Sports Live Broadcast service), and "sharing the demo with friends," EA says, will unlock "Classic" Randy Couture as a playable character in the full game. Just three short weeks from now, you'll throw down in the Octag -- whoops, we mean ring or cage (sorry Dana!). In the meantime, let these screenshots soothe your fightin' rage.

Ubisoft’s announced that the multiplayer beta of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood launches on October 8, while also confirming a delay for the PC version. Multiplayer beta gets stabby next month, Ubi said today that anyone who has pre-ordered the standard edition, as well as the Auditore or Codex editions of the game, will get access to the taster, which is exclusive to PlayStation 3. The beta will include nine different characters across two maps: Rome and Castel Gandolfo.

Eight players can simultaneously play two modes being included: Alliance, which sees players join up in teams of two to “fulfill contracts and confuse enemies in tandem”, and Wanted, the latter of which Steph played at PAX last weekend.

Just in case you’re unfamilar with it still, here’s a trailer of the game’s multiplayer.

Woah, who saw this coming? Apple has changed its stance on third party developer tools for iOS apps, now allowing any and all comers (which would obviously include Adobe CS5), "as long as the resulting apps do not download any code." Apple's also publishing its App Store Review Guidelines at long last, which will give developers a better idea of how their apps are going to be scrutinized by Apple before they submit them. We're sure we'll be hearing plenty in the coming weeks as developers and arm chair analysts rifle through Apple's so-far-secretive guidelines, but mostly we're just excited to see what sort of innovation and development accessibility we've been missing out on with these third party tools off the market.
Nokia shows DVB-H enabled headset that adds mobile TV to the Nokia N8

The Nokia Mobile TV Headset will be sold separately. It plugs into the USB port (the handset needs USB-on-the-go (USB OTG) functionality for the trick to work) and it also functions as a regular handset for calling and listening to music with keys that can change channels and songs.

The Nokia N8 qualifies – it runs Symbian^3 and supports USB OTG. But it’s not out yet (neither are any other Symbian^3 phones) and the headset won’t work on current phones. Nokia C7 and E7 could be compatible too, depending on OTG support (we don’t have official specs yet). MeeGo support is unknown at the moment.
Another potential problem is that DVB-H broadcasts are not available everywhere. New countries are launching broadcasts as time goes on, but still you should check if your region has coverage before considering buying the Mobile TV Headset. On the upside, you don’t need to worry about capped data plans, spotty 3G reception or searching for free Wi-Fi.
Anyway, if you’re in a region with DVB-H broadcast and are planning to buy a compatible phone and you’re willing to shell out 40 euro for this accessory, then you can buy the Nokia Mobile TV Headset some time in Q4 of this year.
The software giant has appointed Mikah Martin-Cruz, currently working as director of marketing for Europe at Samsung, to head its UK-based consumer and online department, Marketing Magazine reports.

Martin-Cruz is expected to join the company in October and will lead a team of 20 members to manage marketing for Windows Live, MSN, Bing, Internet Explorer and Windows Phone in the UK.

He will report to Microsoft's managing director of consumer and online for the UK UK, Ashley Highfield.

"The sheer number and quality of Microsoft's current and soon-to-launch consumer products is incredibly impressive. Whether people want to use PCs, phones, an Xbox or be connected across all three by the internet, Microsoft has a very compelling strategy," said Martin-Cruz.
