  • having trouble connecting to xbox live with AOL 9. HELP!!!!

I tried unsuccesfully to connect to the xbox live service last night.

I'm using a dlink 300T modem connected with an ethernet straight through cable to a Dlink 624 wireless router.
the xbox is connected to the router with a crossed eternet cable.

the xbox live set up page was able to automatically find the cable connection, the IP address & the DNS server but it wont allow connection to the xbox live service.

I am using AOL 9 & i have upgraded the routers firmware to the xbox specified version.

Are there any other settings i should change on the router to gain access to xbox live?

    Thanks
    Nathan

You need a straight through cable to connect the box to the router mate.

Use a x-over for direct connection from PC to XBox.......

    Hope this helps.
I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken

Why do you think I gave you that advice?

Assuming that your configuration is correct then the internet will see the router and so will AOL but that is where the connection will stop as the wires are wrong way round and the box will not be detected with a x-over cable for that reason.

            Good luck with it.

I got a N*L modem connected to my pc via a ethernet cable and I want to connect my xbox to my pc for some online gaming, I got 2 network cards installed 1 for the internet connection and the second for the xbox. Do I need a X over cable too?

Yes you will need a X-over cable as there is no router in the way that will require the connection to be inverted so to speak.

As routers are so cheap these days I would recommend that you get one if possible as they are less problematic and more secure (NAT) than using two nics.

There is a good tutorial on XBox scene regarding Networking the XBox and is worth seeking out as it has recently been updated.

                      Good luck.

swapped the cross over cable for a staright through cable last night & it still wouldnt connect.

I check the xbox setup & it showed that the IC (ICMP) was "0", on xbox.com it says it should read as "1".

I have the d-link 624 wireless router & its supposedly compatible with xbox live & i updated the firmware to 2.42.

Any idea how to make the router let the IC connection reach the xbox, i have no idea about ports etc, but i have seen on the firewall section of the router that you can select ICMP but im not sure which IP address & port numbers to put in

                        thanks

natty15d - can you draw a picture with your set-up, include all your IP address, do not give the internet IP Address on internal private network.

This will help understand your set-up...
